The First Coming of the Messi-ah

By: Matt | May 7th, 2008

Number One

Why hello TheOffside – nice to finally be on you.

Welcome to the brand-new, fresh-out-the-box, player blog for everyone’s favorite Argentine playmaker, Lionel Messi!

Unfortunately, the birth of this blog comes at a terribly time (as many births do), and I cannot dedicated myself to espousing the virtues of the “Hair-adonna” until i struggle through a few final exams.

I will get down to the nasty Messi-to-Chelski rumors (please God no) as soon as I get a chance.

For right now, I’ll leave you with a question: Could Messi be a legitimate threat to dominate the EPL? At age 20, I doubt we have even seen the tip of the iceberg (ice cube maybe? hes a small guy), but too often we see a player thrive in one league, and become a victim to the pressure, expectations, and distinct playing style of another.

Good Luck with your exams buddy. I know how that feels.

I think he could pose a threat in the EPL, but he would have to adapt his game a little (naturally), and not cut in from the right wing as much. But given a chance he could be awesome.

Give him two or three years to mature physically before sending him off to England. He gets hurt often enough as it is in a league that is far less physical than England’s.

I see Messi fitting more into the Italian style of play rather than the EPL. But I don’t think any Italian teams really would pick him up. I’m a Roma fan, but if Messi replaced Nedved on that left flank for Juve. Mannnnn….. man…..

“He gets hurt often enough as it is in a league that is far less physical than England’s.”

There’s nothing unphysical in the way Messi and Ronaldinho get treated by defenders, whether in La Liga or in Europe. He’d be a star in any league.

I think he would even be a bigger goal scorer in the PL than in Spain. But he ain’t going anywhere.

I think Messi would rival C Ron’s dominance of the EPL completely.

    Good to have you aboard!

I don’t think Messi would ever want to leave Barcelona. He loves that club for everything they’ve done for him. As much as I want to see him at the Bridge. When he cuts in from the right he makes defenders panic.

I think Messi is the best player in the world. I believe his injuries are going to happen because of the way he plays. If he went to ground after contact and pranced like Ronaldo he wouldn’t be injured so much. But, isn’t that why we love him? The combination of skill and tenacity. Not many players alone are worth the price of admission, but Messi is definitely one of them.
